Red bud mallee

Eucalyptus pachyphylla

Family: Myrtaceae

Mallee (multi-stemmed) tree to 4m in height featuring large buds which usually have a bright red cap (operculum). These open to display cream-yellow flowers which occur in clusters of three, usually in winter and spring.

The species name refers to the thick leaves.

These pretty plants can be found on red sand plains and dunes and loamy flats. They occur in the inland areas of the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Where to find this plant at Alice Springs Desert Park

Specimens are located along the southern path in Sand Country. Look for them along the path and in between the blue mallees.
