National Science Week 2024 ‘Species Survival’ program

Life can be fragile in the harsh conditions of the Central Australian Desert. Adaption, conservation and education can help to secure the survival of our unique plant and animal species. NT schools are invited to book a specialised presentation and activities. Bookings are essential.

Species Survival - Exclusive School Presentation

Mon 12 Aug – Fri 16 Aug 2024

Two sessions daily 10am -10:45am and 11am – 11:45am

Join on of our experiences staff in the Nocturnal House for a presentation on some of Central Australia’s most threatened species. Learn about the Desert Park’s threaten species programs and some interesting facts on species survival. In our interactive program learn how these species has survived in the harsh desert conditions and what we can do to help ensure their survival.

Microscope Sessions – ‘The Mystery of life up close’

10 – 17 August 2024 in the entry station

You may not realise quite how important both seeds and poos are to species survival. Come and magnify these wonderful little specimens in our entry station and test your skills on which seeds or animals poo you are looking at to understand the species better. Small things are fascinating when you look a little closer.

Nature Play - Recommended for children under 5

Wednesday 14 August

10am for a 60 minute session

Connecting to nature through unstructured play allows children to develop into resilient, healthy, happy and creative community members.   In a private space of the Desert Park explore nuts, seed, sand and mud with guidance from an expert guide.  Let their little minds run wild.  Suited for early primary students. A minimum of seven days required for a booking.
